1) Tips for Selecting the Perfect Photo ?

We recommend choosing a photo that's close up, in focus, and has 1-3 subjects. This will produce the best artistic result. Photos that are dark or out of focus are harder to deal with. Our artists must be able to see the photo details in order to correctly render them into a painted artwork. Many Canvas Art Photo dealers also operate portrait studios. These are the very best types of source photos to create a painted portrait.
  2) Digital Photos: What's the best image format, resolution and size ?
We prefer a .jpeg image in the range of 1 to 5 megabytes in size. Images taken with most digital cameras are captured in .jpeg format and usually require no change. If a digital camera is used the picture size should be set to at least 3 mega pixels. The digital photo can be provided to the Canvas Art dealer on CD or uploaded directly to the studio at www.canvasartphoto.com .

Traditional prints can be scanned and saved to CD at home if you have a scanner connected to you home PC. Save the image in .jpeg format at 300dpi and use the highest quality setting. Local Quick Photo labs or Kiosk stations at Walgreens or Kinkos can also copy a photo to CD directly from your print or camera's memory card.

  3) Are these Canvas Artworks created with actual paint ?
We don't use a traditional paintbrush and paint. Our work is digital and performed manually in a computer by skilled artists using a stylus and electronic tablet along with specially designed software. Our process is not computer-automated. We don't just press a button or apply a filter to create the appearance of random brush strokes. Our work is done by hand using a palette of over 16 million colors. We use modern digital tools to 'dab' and paint in the same rich tradition as Picasso, Matisse or Rembrandt. It truly is a wonder.
  4) How long does it take to create my painted canvas portrait ?
Your painted canvas artwork will usually be completed and available for pick up at the store within three weeks. This does not include time for artwork proofing or revisions. Note: Project lead times at Christmas and Mother's Day can sometimes be a little longer.
  5) May I see the painted portrait before you put it on Canvas ? How can I be sure I will like it ?
Yes you can. If you desire, the art studio will send you a digital proof of the artwork by email before printing on canvas. The cost is $10 and is a preview only. Requests for art changes that deviate from the original photo involve additional costs.

You can also take comfort in our liberal guarantee:
We warrant your satisfaction with a 30 day return privilege when a client photo is supplied that meets our minimum art requirements: A 3x5 traditional print or 1mb size digital photo which is in focus (not blurry) and properly exposed (not dark). Costs for custom framing or expedited shipping services are not warranted.

  6) Can you work with pictures that are old, worn or damaged ?
Yes. We can often fix torn or damaged photographs. This will require expert Photo Retouching by our trained artists. There is a nominal added cost for this service.
  7) Can you take people from different photos and combine them into a single painted portrait ?
Yes. This will take a bit of extra work on our part to recompose the final scene. This service is called "Photo Re-Compositing" and can be ordered for a nominal fee. Just describe your preference for desired positioning of all the subjects with your Canvas Art Photo dealer.
  8) Can I provide a negative or slide ?
Yes you can. We can work with virtually any customer image source. However for safety purposes we recommend you not let go of one-of-a-kind media items without first making a copy. Your photo will be sent to the art studio via the U.S. Postal Service - which is very reliable but they do not guarantee the custody of mailed items. For this reason we recommend all photo documents be scanned first. Then provide us with a reprint or digital copy on CD. Our service does not include a warranty for lost or damaged media.
  9) Can I provide a photo printed on my ink jet printer at home ?
Home inkjet printers do not generally produce a high quality photo image. And more quality is lost when we attempt to re-scan them at our studio. While it is possible for us to work with inkjet printed photos we must let you know in advance this will not allow us to produce our best work. In addition, you sacrifice the return privilege when supplying your source photo as an inkjet print. If an inkjet print is all you have then the online proofing service will be required as an added service for $10 extra. This will limit your total liability to $25 before you have a chance to see what the artwork looks like.
  10) Can a color photo or painting be made out of a Black & White source photo or vice versa ?
Yes we can colorize black & white photos AND convert color photos into black & white. We can also create a color painted artwork from a black & white photo. The first step is to Colorize the black & white photo. We then create a painted artwork based on the colorized photo. When ordering this service we'll need details regarding the subject's natural color for Eyes, Hair & Skin. Be sure to go over these details carefully with your Canvas Art Dealer when placing your order.
  11) Can you remove something or someone from a source photo ?

In most cases, yes. This is an added service called photo retouching and involves a nominal extra cost.

  12) What happens if my photo image won't fit proportionately to the final Canvas size I want ?
Sometimes a customer photo image won't fit proportionately on the canvas size being ordered. When this happens our Artists will artistically crop the image to best display the subjects and suit the overall dimension of the canvas size being ordered. If you have any special cropping instructions please discuss them with your Canvas Art Photo dealer so they can be noted in the comment section of the project order form. If you have any great concerns about this you can make a copy of the source photo on a standard black & white copier machine. Then draw the precise cropping instructions on the photocopy and include it with your order.
  13) Can I have the finished Canvas Artwork delivered to someone else with a Gift Card ?
Yes you can. This option is often chosen for gift giving. Ask your Canvas Art Photo dealer for details. If you have a written wish you'd like to send along we'll include this message in the delivered package for you.
  14) Can I use a professional studio or portrait photograph ?
Yes you can. However some photographers retain copyrights to photo artworks they create for clients. In this case reprint permission from the original photographer is required. When you place your order you warrant that the appropriate permissions have been obtained.
  15) Can you make an over-sized Canvas Artwork or a custom size ?
Yes we can. Please discuss your needs with the Canvas Art Photo dealer. There might be framing considerations or shipping cost issues to discuss.
  16) Can you ship a Canvas Artwork to another Country ?
Yes we can. Your portrait will be shipped as a "Rolled Print" in a mailing tube to reduce the cost of shipping and customs duty. Inquire with your Canvas Art Photo dealer for details.
  17) How can I place an order ?
Visit with your Canvas Art Photo dealer and make the choices for canvas size, depth and type of rendering style. Provide your source photograph and we do the rest. Your finished canvas portrait will usually be ready to pick up at the store within three weeks.
  18) What is your product warranty ?
When you submit an image that meets our minimum requirements we'll guarantee your satisfaction with a full refund, at your option, anytime within 30 days after you receive the finished canvas artwork. Minimum Artwork Requirements are as follows: A clear picture which is in focus (not blurry), not under exposed and is at least 3x5 inches or 1mb in native digital size.

For a $10 charge we can also send you an advance proof of the painted artwork via email before we print the artwork to Canvas. Requests for art changes that deviate from the original photo involve additional costs. Our warranty does not include the cost for custom framing or any expedited shipping services.
